GAS STATIONS
When fueling please use ONLY Pemex PREMIUM (red pump). The other fuel type available is very contaminated in these area of Mexico and
eventually will cause engine mis failures, especially on a long trip. PLEASE VERIFY that the pump is in 0s before they start filling your tank. When fueling sometimes you will be asked to open the hood for level checking. Please SAY NO. Main reason is you will not see what the service guy will be doing, and sometimes you will get billed for nothing when they show you an empty can of oil or coolant. Unless an engine gauge on your dashboard indicates something wrong, or you see or feel that a tire needs air, please DO NOT request any extra service other than fuel. All vehicles are inspected and checked for correct levels before every rental.
THEFT PREVENTION
To prevent stolen items or breaking inside the car, please DO NOT LEAVE ANY belongings or bags inside vehicle that can be seen from outside. Also if you need to leave your bags inside the trunk, please do it before you reach the place where you will leave vehicle. Car thieves will usually be watching when you arrive and will see you moving bags inside the trunk. Always leave vehicle overnight in the parking lot of your hotel and if they don't provide parking, please ask them where you can park the car safely overnight. Lately, car breakings are very common on the area of Playa del Carmen, especially in parking lots of shopping or grocery stores, and these cautions will avoid your chance to get hit.
POLICE
On highways and roads you might find security check points where you il be asked to stop for a quick verification. Although is not common, some bad police elements will try to scare you with some excuse as: missing you seat belt, vehicle capacity exceeded, expired license plates or any other issue. In such case please stay calm, and DO NOT OFFER ANY MONEY. That's what they are trying to get from you. To verify that issues is not part of their job. You can tell Officer to please proceed in whatever he needs to do and issue the corresponding ticket. They will let you go. In the other hand, if you do infringe any traffic law and you get stopped by traffic police (TRANSITO), also DO NOT OFFER ANY MONEY, they will issue a ticket for it if so, call us and mail it to us,or take a picture will your cell phone and send it to us. Well help you clear It with a 50% discount within the first 3 days of the event, and you can pay it at car return. REMEMBER THAT THE ONLY CAUSE THAT YOU CAN BE RETAINED AND HOLD BY POLICE IS THAT YOU ARE DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCHOL OR DRUGS OR THAT IN AN ACCIDENT SOME BODY GETS INJURED. For All other infractions they will issue a traffic ticket and they must let you go.
IN CASE OF ACCIDENT OR CAR DAMAGES
If your rental is covered with full coverage insurance policy, although that means you have covered all potential damages to the car, theft, and third parties, you CAN NOT EXPECT to return the car damaged and ask for these coverage at car return. As all insurance, this one has restrictions that you have to be aware in order to validate coverages. INSURANCE WILL BE VOID IF DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS OR ALCHOHOL, WHEN NOT DRIVEN BY THE/THOSE REGISTERED AS DRIVERS IN RENTAL AGREEMENT, AND WHEN VIOLATING ANY CONDITION STIPULATED ON RENTAL AGREEMENT. If you do have an accident, and none of the above is your case, IN ORDER TO VALIDATE INSURANCE COVERAGE, YOU WILL NEED TO CALL US INMEDIATLEY, AND DO NOT MOVE VEHICLE/VEHICLES FROM THE ACCIDENT LOCATION OTHERWISE YOU ARE INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY THE POLICE. Insurance rep will be in the
place of accident in to verify place and conditions of the accident, take pictures in the spot, take statement of drivers involved, and clear out police requirements. You'll may be required to go to a Police Station to state an official declaration. He will then make a brief report, and issue to you a coverage order sheet, which will clear you of any payment for damages. That's how it works, so please, if you cause any damages to the car, follow these procedure so that at car return you'll not be required for nothing.
AIRPORT CAR RETURN
Car returns at the airport will be attended in Avant offices. Please see map. Although we are only at 4 minutes driving time from Cancun Intl Airport, please allow 15/ 20 minutes for car delivery process and driving you back to the according airport terminal.
